Monica M&C: What's New in Release v7.4.0
Monica version 7.4.0 is a smaller incremental upgrade from the previous major version v7.3.0. There is one notable new feature and multiple smaller improvements. Learn more in the following sections.
Per-instrument logging
The new feature simplifies ground station instrument monitoring. What is changed? The main log file was split into multiple log files, one per each instrument (and group), making it much easier to investigate and debug instrument behaviour. Each instrument, parameter and even Read/Write mode have their own log level, which makes it possible to debug only one parameter without spamming with other log entries. Days of using println in driver translation scripts are gone!
Each instrument gets a new Log tab, which is also available on schemas.

There is a clear convention on what certain log levels show, with DEBUG being used for Engineering parameter values, while TRACE is used for Raw values (as being received or sent to the device).
Each instrument has its own log configuration, with log rotation settings and fine granulation of logging levels.

There is also a clear indication on instrument table if log level is set to anything below INFO, to indicate that there is heavy logging ongoing.

Other notable improvements in Monica 7.4.0
Monica 7.4.0 introduces several important improvements that make day-to-day operations more transparent, secure, and efficient.
Raw parameter values
Besides the regular parameter value, often called engineering or M&C value, a new concept of Raw value is introduced, showing the value which is used on the device, before any translations to the M&C value. This gives engineers better visibility into what the hardware is actually receiving and sending, which is especially useful for troubleshooting and validation in complex environments.
Besides Raw value, a Raw unit field is also available, in case unit conversion is used.

Security, UI refresh, and smoother instrument import and loading
In addition to raw parameter handling, Monica 7.4.0 brings stronger security, a modernised user interface powered by Angular 20, and noticeable performance improvements that make instrument import and loading faster and smoother for operators. Together, these enhancements support safer operations today and provide a more future-proof platform for evolving ground segment needs.
